When you cast your own bullets, you have a wide variety of bullet types that you can choose from. Casting can save you money and allow you to shoot more in your practice time. Bullet casting is a great hobby for avid shooters.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small lead precision electric furnace
  • Bullet mold
  • Small ladle
  • Lead substance to melt
  • Respirator
  • Safety glasses
  1. Step 1

Look at the material and equipment that you must work with when bullet casting. You must have a furnace, a melting pot and different types of molds. You also must have a good, sturdy ladle. You use the ladle to pour the melted lead into the bullet-casting molds.

  2. Step 2

Work carefully with the melted lead. Experts suggest that you always wear a thick pair of gloves and eye protection when you cast a bullet. This way, you are protected if any of the molten lead splatters as you are dipping into the pot and pouring into the molds.

  3. Step 3

Melt your lead thoroughly before you get ready to cast your bullets. This stops flaws from being in your mold and ruining your work. Cooling a casted bullet quickly helps harden your finished bullet, thus adding texture when you cast a bullet.

  4. Step 4

Dip the ladle into the molten lead and pour it into the top of your mold. Some molds have a knife cutoff built into the top of the mold. This allows you to cut excess lead away from your bullet, giving you the correct weight. This feature makes your work easier and your finished product cleaner.
