Step 1
Learn a variety of Egyptian-style belly dancing moves. Practice the moves separately, and also interchange one move for another.
-
Step 2
Pick music for the dance. Keep in mind that Egyptian belly dances almost always use Egyptian music. If you are creating a lengthy dance, splice your music so that it flows from one song to the next without interruption.
-
Step 3
Listen to the music. Become familiar with the tempo, pace and flow of the music selection. Start the music again and dance. Improvise, letting yourself make whatever movement seems natural while sensing what you're hearing.
-
Step 4
Dance, at this part of the process, with presence and enthusiasm, using up the space you have available. Refrain from dancing with forethought and planning.
-
Step 5
Consider how the major and minor movements of your body work together. For example, you might decide hip snaps fit perfectly with a certain part of the music. Select an arm movement to combine with the hip snaps.
-
Step 6
Compose choreography, if you are choreographing a performance, by listening to small sections of the dance and settling on certain movements in sequence. Practice the choreography until it is ingrained within you.
-
Step 7
Write down the movements as you go along or memorize them. Continue composing section by section, and practicing longer and longer sections, until you have finished your composition.
