Step 1
Start in a front stance. You'll need to propel yourself up and forward, so a front stance is a good stance to start in. Keep your hands close to your body as you typically would in a fighting stance.
-
Step 2
Jump up and toward your opponent. Bring your back leg forward and use your front leg to spring off the ground. Propel yourself up and forward, not just up.
-
Step 3
Keep your nonstriking hand in front of you to guard against a strike from your opponent. Extend your front hand to block. Use either an open hand or a closed fist. The important thing is to deflect any strikes your opponent may make in retaliation to your jump.
-
Step 4
Reach your striking hand back. You must throw a powerful punch, so as you jump, bring your punching fist back. Think of it as a power punch as opposed to a jab. Your palm should be facing up when you fully cock your fist.
-
Step 5
Punch straight at a downward angle and extend your arm completely. You are aiming for your opponent's upper body or her head if the rules allow it. Again, this must be a powerful punch, so punch quickly and with a lot of force.
-
Step 6
Retract your arm and land ready to guard against an oncoming attack. Landing any jumping maneuver is vitally important, because jumping makes you more vulnerable to attack. Land in a fighting stance with your hands in the guard position.
