Crocheting is not only a fun and relaxing hobby to have; it is also very practical since you can create useful things. Follow the steps below to double crochet in a spiral. A double crochet spiral creates a loose weave in an interesting pattern. Since a spiral crochet continues around without ending, it is used to create things like hats and cuffs on sleeves.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Worsted weight cotton or wool yarn
  • Size 16 crochet needle
  • Size G or H hook
  • Safety pin
  1. Step 1

Grip the loose yarn with the hand not holding the crochet needle.

  2. Step 2

Hold on to the knot from the last stitch using your thumb and middle finger of your left hand.

  3. Step 3

Put the hook of the crochet needle through the first stitch of the last round. Put the hook in front of the loose yarn, and then behind it. Two loops of thread are wrapped around the hook of the needle.

  4. Step 4

Slide the thread through the first loop only. Keep the index finger of your right hand on the second loop so that it does not move.

  5. Step 5

Pull the needle with the yarn wrapped around it through again, this time through both loops. There are two stitches to each hole to create the double crochet in a spiral.

  6. Step 6

Mark the beginning of each round with a safety pin so you can easily keep track of where you are at. Once you stitch all the way around and reach the safety pin, move it to the beginning stitch of the previous round.
