How to Make Peppermint Candy Spoons

Things You'll Need
- Chocolate, finely chopped
- Shortening, butter or margarine
- Candy canes or peppermint candies
- Plastic spoons
- Baking sheet
- Aluminum foil or wax paper

Place the foil or wax paper on the baking sheet.

Place the peppermint candies in a baggie. Using a rolling pin or meat tenderizer, finely crush the candies in the bag, or crush the candies by placing them in a blender and pushing the "crush" button.

Put the butter and the chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the mix until it is completely blended and melted. Be sure to stir the mixture after every minute to keep it from burning.

Grasp the spoon by the top and dip it two thirds of the way into the smooth chocolate mixture. Gently bang the spoon by the edge of the bowl to get rid of any excess chocolate.

Hold the chocolate-covered spoon above the bowl containing the crushed candy pieces. Using a plain spoon, gently dust the chocolate spoon with the crushed candy. Be sure to get the front and back of the spoon.

Open the fridge and put the prepared spoons in it for at least a quarter of an hour. This will allow them to set.

Tips & Warnings
Candy bits will get tacky or sticky if left out at room temperature for long periods. Be sure to put them in a plastic bag and seal it tight.
Put the spoons in a container or bag that cannot get air in it. This way they can be stored for around a month.
Do not leave the spoons at room temperature for very long as they will begin to melt.
