How to Do a Pop Sound Using Your Cheeks

For whatever reason, some people find it amusing and worthwhile to learn to make various wacky or obnoxious noises. Among the most famous is the "finger in the mouth to make a cork-type sound" noise. It is quite easy to make a popping sound using just your cheeks and a finger.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Take your index finger and place it in your mouth. The palm side of the hand should be facing away from the facial area.
Step2
Make sure that the tip of the index finger is close to the corner of the mouth, on the inside of course.
Step3
Tighten the lips around the index finger. It is like a sucking motion, only not quite. You don't want the cheeks involved in the equation just yet. Just make sure there is not a lot of air escaping the area.
Step4
Keep the finger in place while puffing the cheeks up until they are full of air. Again, make sure no air is escaping the mouth or the popping noise will be weak or non-existent.
Step5
Break the air seal by flicking the index finger out of the mouth. If you are unsure of the flicking motion, just make a mental picture of a pinball machine flipper. As the air seal is broken, the end result should be a noise similar to a cork being removed from a bottle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice makes perfect! Do not be discouraged if you cannot make the noise right away.
  • Always make sure your hands are clean before putting them in your mouth.
