Even though it sounds easy, there are certain things that must be taken into consideration when going through this process. The following steps will tell you how to cut up and throw away a credit card the right way.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Double-check that the credit card you want to throw away is the correct one. Wait until your new card comes in before you cut up the old one.
Step2
Locate the card number on the front of the card. Use your scissors and cut the card between each of the four sets of numbers.
Step3
Look for the security number. This is usually a three-digit number found on the back of the card in the signature authorization box. Cut here also but make sure the card number and the security number are not on the same cut.
Step4
Now cut each of your five pieces into small pieces until you cannot cut anymore. The numbers should not be easy to read now.
Step5
Throw away the card. Throw the pieces of the card away at different times, in different garbage bins, and throughout your town. This ensures that nobody will piece your card back together and use it against you.
