A hair straightener styling iron is a handy multi-use tool for a variety of styling techniques. It can be used for much more than just straightening curly or wavy hair. It can do just the opposite--produce a head full of bouncy, soft curls.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Styling iron no more than 1 inch in width
  • Moisturizing shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Styling lotion or gel with thermal protection
  • Comb

Step1
Wash your hair with a moisturizing shampoo, and apply a good conditioner. Make sure you hair is completely dry before you begin.
Step2
Apply a styling lotion or liquid gel. Use one that has thermal protection to protect the hair from the heat.
Step3
Part the hair into sections no wider than the straightening iron, and comb any tangles out of the section.
Step4
Clamp the iron at the end of the section, and curl it upward, working very slowly. Hold the flat iron in place in the curled position for about 6 seconds, and slowly uncurl the flat iron and remove it carefully from your hair.
Step5
Continue to curl the hair section by section until the entire head is curled. Spritz the curls lightly with hairspray to control frizz and help preserve the curls longer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Color-treated hair or very fine hair will require lower temperatures, and curly or coarse hair will need more heat.
  • Don't use am iron to curl your hair regularly because the heat can damage and break your hair.
