As a daughter still living at home, it may be a difficult task to convince your parents that you want to date an older guy. Parents should be protective of you and won't always see eye to eye with you. When convincing your parents to allow you to date an older guy, you must present all the positives about the situation, and you must be accepting of your parents' concerns.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set up a family meeting to talk to your parents about the older guy you want to start seeing. Create a positive environment to begin the discussion and remain calm throughout the meeting.

  2. Step 2

Inform your parents about all of the positive characteristics of the older guy. Make your parents understand what you find interesting about the guy and why you think he is intelligent and caring.

  3. Step 3

Ask your parents if they will consider meeting him. When convincing your parents to allow you to date an older guy, make it a point to let them know that you want them to meet him.

  4. Step 4

Be honest about all the facts about the older guy. If you start hiding things such as age, criminal records, and drug or drinking problems from your parents, you are only hurting yourself. You may want to reconsider dating this guy if he has characteristics you want to hide from your parents.

  5. Step 5

Allow your parents to give their input about dating the older guy. You are your parentss pride and joy, and the only reason they would not want you to date this guy is to protect you and your safety.

  6. Step 6

Remind your parents how responsible you are. Point out the positive relationships you have had with other guys. Help them to remember the good judgment you have shown in the past in choosing guys to date.

  7. Step 7

Accept a compromise with your parents. If they say you can only see this older guy in group situations, kindly accept this and take this as a starting point for your new relationship.
