An eBay experience can be fun and exciting, but you should always use caution when bidding. One slip and you can end up with a bad experience. Take these steps to determine whether to bid on an eBay item.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Read the description carefully and thoroughly. Sometimes descriptions can have "fine print" or strange wording to confuse you. If you are unsure of the description, move on to another item.
Step2
Contact the seller if you have any questions about the item. Sometimes the seller will forget or not notice an important part of the item that needs to be included. Honest sellers will respond to you as soon as they can.
Step3
Determine what kind of payment methods the seller accepts. PayPal is common, as are money orders and checks. Don't give your credit card number directly to the seller. Sign up for a PayPal account, as that is the quickest way to get payment to the seller.
Step4
Check the seller's feedback. If there are a lot of negative comments, it's best to avoid that seller. There are times though, when a transaction doesn't work out and many times it isn't the seller's fault. Carefully read each negative feedback and determine if each transaction was just an honest mistake or miscommunication.
Step5
Note whether the seller offers a return policy. If there isn't one, then this may not be the seller for you. You could always email the seller to ask about returns if you aren't sure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never do a transaction outside of eBay. There are many dishonest people that will try to take your money and you'll have no way to prove it.
