When appetizers get spilled, the host is left to clean up the mess. While its almost impossible to prevent your guests from the occasional accident, you can clean up the stain quickly and get on with the party. Salsa stains can be removed using some common household products.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Mix 1 cup of room temperature water and 1 tsp. of pH balanced detergent. The detergent should be bleach-free.
Step2
Gently blot the stained surface with the mixture using a rag or paper towel.
Step3
Combine 1 tbsp. ammonia with a 1/2 cup water. Use a separate container for this solution.
Step4
Pat this mixture lightly into the salsa stain with a different rag or just use paper towel.
Step5
Apply the detergent and water mixture again, this time more vigorously. Use clean water to rinse the salsa-stained area.
Step6
Blot the area dry. If the stain is still visible, repeat the process until the area is clean.

Tips & Warnings

  • Work from the outside of a stain to the center. This helps prevent it from spreading.
  • Before using cleaners to remove the salsa stain, always scoop up and remove as much of the mess as possible without cleaner.
  • Test a small test patch on the material you plan to clean in an inconspicuous area. Some fabrics may become discolored when this solution is used.
