It's not comforting to know that your fine leather is accumulating mold. However, it does happen over time. You can remove mold from leather and return your shoes, handbag or furniture back to it's finest state. Follow these steps to clean your leather and make it look new.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Take the object outside. As you remove mold, particles are released into the air. You don't want these particles circulating throughout your home.
Step2
Wipe the object down using a clean and dry cloth. Use a toothbrush to clean crevices or areas that you can't access with the cloth.
Step3
Mix a solution of soap and water in a bucket. Apply the solution to a clean cloth and wipe down the object again.
Step4
Keep the object out the sun if you don't want to risk fading.
Step5
Apply leather conditioner to the object once it is completely dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prevent re-growth of mold by keeping the object in a dry location with good air circulation. Avoid using humidifiers in rooms with leather furniture.
  • Watch your leather regularly for regrowth. Remove mold from leather immediately to prevent it from spreading.
  • Never use bleach, alcohol or vinegar to remove mold from leather. While this may kill the mold, it also destroys leather.
