Fashion is an important part of the Emo lifestyle, especially for girls. The right clothes show the world just how Emo you really are while expressing your natural Emoness. Learn how to dress the part and perfect your own Emo style.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eye liner
  • Mascara
  • Nail polish
  • Eye shadow

    Hair Styling

  1. Step 1

Style your hair. Hair is arguably the most important feature of the Emo look. Almost all girl Emo hairstyles involve straight or crimped hair. Dye your hair solid black.

  2. Step 2

Streak it or just your bangs with platinum blonde or bits of pink. Bangs should be long, fall over the face and keep one eye hidden.

  3. Step 3

Use choppy layers for long hair or cut it short in the back while keeping it long in the front. Make it look like you haven't washed or brushed your hair in a few days, and you couldn't care less.

  4. Pick Clothes

  5. Step 1

Select a top. Shirts should be dark, fit extremely tightly and have bands, ironic slogans or retro faded screenings on them.

  6. Step 2

Wear tight, dark and old-looking outwear like hoodies, sweaters, denim jackets and pea coats. Keep sweaters V-necked. Try wearing track jackets from prior decades.

  7. Step 3

Choose the right bottom. The tighter the pants, the more Emo the Emo. Many Emos choose to wear straight-legged Dickies, but any brand of tight, blue, black, white or grey skinny-legged pants work. Wear dark skirts with light tights or light skirts with dark tights.

  8. Select Shoes

  9. Step 1

Top your look off with the right shoes. Old Converse All-Stars, Vans, Airwalks, Sambas and some styles of Nike shoes finish the Emo look.

  10. Step 2

Add an extra bit of femininity to your outfit by buying Converse sneakers in different styles and colors.

  11. Step 3

Break shoes in enough to make them look like they're at least 10 years old.

  12. Choose Accessories

  13. Step 1

Purchase black thin-rimmed or cat-eye glasses, small pins, scarves, messenger bags or white belts with pewter studs.

  14. Step 2

Pierce of gauge your ears; get an eyebrow, lip or labret piercing or just add a few extra regular piercings on your ears.

  15. Step 3

Try to find necklaces and bracelets that have beads, bats and broken or bleeding hearts on them.

  16. Step 4

    Wear argyle socks.

  17. Apply Makeup

  18. Step 1

Buy black liquid eye liner, mascara, nail polish and eye shadow.

  19. Step 2

Color your eyelids, eyelashes and nails with black.

  20. Step 3

Put a little color in your makeup by investing in very dramatic shades. Mac cosmetics sell eye makeup in colors vivid enough for the Emo look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Chipped nail polish is the only kind of nail polish you should wear.
  • Emos take fashion very seriously. Don't be caught with the wrong clothes...or a smile.
