Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Verify that you mouse is connected, that the buttons are facing the computer screen and that the mouse rests on a flat surface. Buy a mouse pad.
Step2
Move the mouse to the side of the keyboard that lets you click with your dominant hand.
Step3
Place your hand over the mouse. Make sure your thumb is on one side and your ring finger is on the other. Place the index finger above the left mouse button and the middle finger over the right button while your palm cups the rest of the mouse.
Step4
Move the mouse around on the flat surface. An arrow should appear on your screen. The arrow should turn into a hand with a pointing finger once you have hovered above a clickable area on the screen. Stop moving the mouse once you've identified something clickable.
Step5
Press and release the left button lightly. The sound of a click and a change on the screen signals that have you clicked correctly. Some things on your computer, such as applications, need to be double-clicked. Simply click twice over the item. Don't move the mouse or lift your finger from it while doing this, as the clicks need to be successive and quick.
Step6
Practice at websites that help you learn how to use your mouse (see Resources below). Complete the interactive exercises.
Step7
Simplify handling by investing in a cordless mouse. Buy an ergonomic mouse to prevent muscle stress and posture issues that may arise due to clicking on mice for hours.
