How to Change the Default Font on Windows Notepad


Personal PC's come with a default text program called "Notepad." This program comes with its own defaults and many users do not realize you can change them. Change the font's style and size on windows notepad to the text you prefer. Change the font on your windows PC whenever you wish. Your font will remain at the new settings until you change it.

  • Click on the "Start" button in the lower left hand corner on your windows PC bottom toolbar.

  • Select "All Programs" then choose "Accessories". Look at the programs listed here and find "Notepad". Click to open notepad.

  • Look at the top of notepad. You will see several buttons: "File", "Edit" and "Format". Click "Format."

  • Pick "Fonts" from the drop-down menu. This will open a box, in a new window, with all the font choices.

  • Choose the fonts you want from the choices. You may also choose the font style, such as bold or italic, font size and script.

  • View the box labeled "Sample." As you make your selections, you can see them immediately applied in this box. When you have the font you want, click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • When someone sends you an attachment using Notepad, the text will open with the font changes you made on your computer. However, when you send someone an attachment, it will open with the settings on their computer. If they have not changed the settings, they will see your document with the default notepad settings.
