Blond hair color comes in many shades from numerous manufacturers. If you have any natural reddish tones, your hair can turn a harsh color of gold, or be brassy looking. You can tone down that look with silver shades.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Buy hair color that is specific for the silver tones it imparts. Stay away from warm tones like honey. Cool tones include platinum, silver and ash, which are all in the violet tones. If your hair is dark and you want to lighten it to a silver blond, have a colorist do your hair. The colorist will bleach the hair several shades lighter and use the right tone for silvery blond hair.
Step2
Shampoo with a blue or violet shampoo. Read the label to ensure that it's formulated to remove brassiness. These shampooss can be found at drugstores, beauty supply stores or salons. You also can add a small amount of color toner to the shampoo you normally use.
Step3
Reverse frost your hair at your colorist. A reverse frost diminishes the blond in frosted hair. The colorist will apply a cap to your head or use foils to reverse frost it. If a cap is used, your hair is pulled through holes with a hook. The amount of hair pulled through the cap varies, depending on how heavy or light you want the reverse frost. Never try to reverse frost your hair yourself.
