Instructions

    • 1

Remove all food from the freezer and put it in an insulated ice chest, the coldest part of your house or in a friendly neighbor's freezer.

    • 2

Turn the unit off if there is a switch, otherwise unplug it to start the defrosting process. If the freezer has a drip tray, check to make sure it's in place.

    • 3

Put old bath towels around the floor of the freezer to sop up any water that overflows.

    • 4

Boil a couple of pans of water and put them inside the unit. Close the freezer door to keep the heat inside. Replace the boiling water as it cools down to keep the temperature inside the freezer raised.

    • 5

Soak up the melting water with towels as the freezer continues to defrost. When large pieces of ice come free, pull them out and dump them into the sink. As the defrosting progresses, you will have to work fast to keep up with the moisture.
