Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pumpkin
  • Carving tools
  • Netting
  • Ribbon
  • Awl
  • Scissors
  • Adhesives
  • Embellishments
  1. Step 1

Clean the surface with a damp paper towel.

  2. Step 2

Create a bride pumpkin by carving a happy face, and then attaching a piece of white netting at the top to become a veil. Add rhinestones along the bottom edge for a glamorous touch.

  3. Step 3

Design a beautifully-textured pumpkin by hollowing it out, then punching rows of small holes around the opening and sides with an awl. Weave ribbon or netting in and out of the holes, knotting the ends in front for added interest.

  4. Step 4

Conceal a dented and bruised pumpkin by wrapping it with ribbon. Swirl thick, white ribbon around the entire surface to create a mummy. Run black ribbon down the ridges in the pumpkin and adhere shorter pieces to connect the lines and make a spooky spider web. Or pin beaded pieces of trim vertically for a colorful, textured surface.

  5. Step 5

Tie themed accents to the top of the pumpkin with ribbon. Try driedleaves and twigs for a fall look or combine candy with a "Trick-or-Treat" sign.

  6. Step 6

Cut ribbon into short strips to create decorative "hay." Use different colors and textures to match your pumpkin or surrounding décor. Arrange pieces into a pile and rest the pumpkin on top of it.

  7. Step 7

Use the netting to wrap a decorated pumpkin as a gift. Sit the gourd on a piece of black netting, gather it at the top and trim, leaving a fringe at the top that you can tie with an orange or black bow.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't light a candle within the carved pumpkin if the ribbon or mesh dangles near the opening.
  • Never let children use knives or awls to carve the pumpkin. Remove the sharp objects from the area as soon as you're finished.
