You can use Microsoft Word for more than just traditional writing functions. You can alter the text direction for any text within text boxes, tables and other drawing objects. Learn how to alter the orientation of text within a document.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Microsoft Word 2003 or later

Step1
Create a text box by going to "Insert" on the toolbar and selecting "Text Box" from the drop-down menu. You should see a box appear within your document. If you're changing the orientation of text within a table you can skip to Step 3, otherwise, continue to Step 2.
Step2
Draw a text box within the box that reads, "Create Your Drawing ere," by placing your cursor at the upper-left corner of the box and dragging until the box is large enough.
Step3
Write the text you want to reorient. If you're changing text within a table or other object, select the text.
Step4
Select "Format" from the toolbar and then "Text Direction" within the drop-down menu. This brings up another screen in which you may select the direction you want your text to read. Once you've decided on a direction, click "OK."
Step5
Change the font, size and color of the text and resize the text box, table cell or other drawing object to fit your document.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the text box is active prior to Step 4 otherwise the "text direction" won't be available for use.
