That familiar buzz in your ear on a humid summer evening can only mean that mosquito season has arrived. There are numerous insect repellents on the market, but many people feel uncomfortable spraying themselves or their families with harsh chemicals. This is the time when a good old-fashioned swat is in order.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

One-Handed Technique

Step1
Lure the mosquito toward you by exhaling strongly. Mosquitoes find fresh human blood by flying toward the carbon dioxide we exhale.
Step2
Wait for the mosquito to land on a surface near you. A flat table is ideal, but you can also allow the mosquito to settle on a part of your own body.
Step3
Strike the mosquito with a flat, open hand using a short, quick motion.

Two-Handed Technique

Step1
Locate an airborne mosquito. Maintain eye contact with the mosquito and keep your gaze fixed on the pest.
Step2
Raise both hands in front of you as if to clap.
Step3
Smash the mosquito between your flat, open hands in a swift clapping motion.

Flyswatter Technique

Step1
Approach a mosquito with your flyswatter in hand.
Step2
Wait for the mosquito to settle on a flat surface, such as a table.
Step3
Hit the mosquito with the swatter, using one short, rapid stroke. Clean off the fly swatter and store it for the next mosquito strike.

Tips & Warnings

  • Bug zappers are not effective at killing mosquitoes. In fact, they do not kill mosquitoes at all, but instead kill other bugs that eat mosquitoes. In short, a bug zapper is only likely to exacerbate your mosquito problem.
