How to Burp Without People Noticing

When we eat and drink we consume air with our food and beverages. After air enter our stomach it needs to come out. Sometimes it exits in the form of a burp. Although everyone burps, you can learn to do it quietly.

      Close your mouth when you feel a burp coming. If your mouth is open the burp comes out with full force and makes a loud noise.

      Hold the air that was expelled by the burp in your closed mouth for a second or two.

      Place your hand over your mouth like you would if you were coughing or clearing your throat. You might want to actually clear your throat to mask the noise if the burp doesn't come out quietly.

      Release the air through your mouth slowly. Be sure to let the air out slowly if you want it come out quietly.

      Release the air through your nose instead of your mouth, this is known as a nose burp and can usually be done without making any noise.

      Say "excuse me" when you are done. If no one heard the burp, the assumption is that you are excusing yourself for the throat clearing or coughing.

  • If a burp slips out, just say "excuse me" and go about your business.
