1
Check tire pressure and condition. Inflate tires to the pressure specified on the sides or in the manual. Make sure there are no cracks or worn areas.
-
2
Toot the horn to see if it works. The horn is sometimes the only signal that you're moving around a corner or into a blind area.
-
-
3
Inspect the lights. Turn on and view the front, tail and brake lights. Check the warning lights on top or sides if there are any.
-
4
Give the steering system a spin. Confirm that the steering wheel or levers are all working. They shouldn't be too tight or too loose. Look for leaks in lines if the forklift is operated by hydraulics. Examine all lifts and levers to ensure they're operating smoothly.
-
5
Study the battery. Verify fluid levels, vent caps and cell caps. Look for holes or cracks in the battery or battery cavity. Assess the propane tank for cracks and leaks, and make sure it's secure.
-
6
Evaluate the service brake. Try pressing the brake down. The brake should encounter resistance and never go all the way to the floor of the forklift.
-
7
Tighten the seatbelt to make sure it is working properly. Adjust the seat height and make sure it is securely in place.
-
8
Review by walking around the forklift. Look for cracks in the overhead guard, mast, lift chains and forks.
