How to Jump Off a Ramp on a Scooter

Although there are various tricks you can perform with your scooter on the ground, none of them achieve the same height as a ramp jump. Ramps come in different sizes, with some of the smallest being only a few inches tall, but they all let you launch your scooter into the air.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your ramp on flat ground in an open area. Parking lots, driveways and deserted neighborhood streets work because they're flat and clear of obstacles.

  2. Step 2

Give yourself enough room to accelerate into the jump. 20 feet or so of pavement makes a great runway.

  3. Step 3

Charge the ramp on your scooter, using powerful leg drives to push forward and build speed. The faster you're traveling when you hit the ramp, the higher you'll go.

  4. Step 4

Bunny hop by jumping up and pulling the handlebars with you as your scooter nears the ramp's end. It's important to lift your feet so that the scooter's deck can rise with your body.

  5. Step 5

Land on balance with both feet planted firmly on the scooter's deck. Avoid leaning back during the landing, which can cause the front wheel to rise off the ground and throw you backwards onto the pavement.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear proper protective gear when doing tricks on scooters. Because of the speed and height, ramp jumping is particularly dangerous. Consider a helmet and elbow pads as essential.
  • Set up your ramp at the bottom of a downhill run to get even more height from the jump.
