Learning to jump on a dirt bike is essential to navigating tough trails. Improve your basic jumping technique so that you can control your dirt bike on advanced tracks. Start with small jumps to get the hang of it.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand up in a crouching position as you approach the jump. Grip the body of the dirt bike with your knees and legs to prevent yourself from pitching forward and over the bike.

  2. Step 2

Hold the bike steady so it doesn't pitch to the side as if it's hit a bump.

  3. Step 3

Choose the line of the jump you want to take, meaning the path you want to proceed up the ramp. Keep your throttle even, making sure you have enough speed to clear the jump and land properly.

  4. Step 4

Maintain the front wheel higher than the rear at takeoff and look toward where you want to land.

  5. Step 5

Land on flat land with the rear wheel first and let the front wheel come down gently.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice small dirt bike jumps until you're comfortable with the process. Gradually build up to larger, more complicated jumps as your skills grow.
