Step 1
Examine the basic beliefs of Mormonism. You can find a discussion of church doctrines on the Mormon.org website (see Resources below). If you know Mormons, talk to them about their faith for a more personalized view. If missionaries come to your door, you can also discuss doctrine with them.
-
Step 2
Read the "Book of Mormon," which is the key text of the religion. According to Mormons, the "Book of Mormon" is a history of inhabitants of the Americas, including an account of Jesus's visit to the Americas. It can be difficult for an outsider to understand the "Book of Mormon." A study guide can help you (see Resources below).
-
Step 3
Attend worship services at a local Mormon church. As a nonmember, you can't attend services in an LDS temple. Dress respectfully and arrive early to introduce yourself as a visitor who isn't Mormon. Church members can answer any questions you have about the service.
-
Step 4
Contact Mormon missionaries so you can discuss the religion in more detail. Members of the church you attended can put you in touch with missionaries. For two years, young Mormons devote themselves to teaching others about their beliefs.
-
Step 5
Pray over your decision. Mormons believe that God contacts you to let you know if you're making the right decision. After you pray, if you feel convinced that this is the religion for you, contact the missionaries or officials at a local church.
-
Step 6
Tell the missionaries that you want to be baptized, which confirms your commitment to the Church, to God and to others. After the baptism ceremony, you can seek full membership in the Mormon Church.
-
Step 7
Become a confirmed member of the Mormon Church. The missionaries who baptized you can give you the name of a priesthood holder who can confirm you. Alternatively, you can go to your local Mormon church and express your desire to become confirmed. Once confirmed, your name is added to the Mormon Church records. You'll also receive additional information about the religion.

on 11/20/2009 Excellent article - I like how you pointed out that investigators should examine the Book of Mormon and pray about their decision.
