Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Notebook or journals
  • Pen or pencil
  • Gas receipts
  1. Step 1

Buy a notebook, journal or use a spreadsheet to track your gas use.

  2. Step 2

Go to the gas station of your choice.

  3. Step 3

Purchase the gas. Be sure to get a receipt.

  4. Step 4

Review the receipt to find the number of gallons of gas purchased, the price per gallon and the total amount of the purchase.

  5. Step 5

Write that information in your notebook with the date of purchase. If you have multiple vehicles, add each vehicle to the log the same way you would for one. You can also keep separate track for each vehicle. Keeping receipts along with the log book will help if there's a discrepancy in your documented use.

  6. Step 6

Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for all your gas purchases. At the end of each week or month, add the totals together to track the amount of gas use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Proper car maintenance can help your car get better gas mileage. Try using a fuel injector cleaner at least once a month.
