Landing a jump like a cat proves to be one of the essential basic moves before fully tackling parkour. When executed correctly, the shock of the body drops quite a bit, making for a continuation of the sport without the usually expected aches and pains in the knee joints.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Practice in a safe, cushioned environment before venturing out to the asphalt jungle. Gymnasium or workout places make for the perfect practice areas. Once you've master landing a jump like a cat comfortably in a controlled environment, head out into the real world and go for it.
Step2
Jump upwards from your stance before going straight down, like lifting off the ground and coming back down. Pull the knees up into the chest. It sets the posture correctly for a safe uneventful landing. When your knees flex in ease for the force of impact, you literally bounce as you land, cushioning the impact.
Step3
Raise the hands up to both stabilize the body's posture and to prime the body for a slap to the ground when you land.
Step4
Keep the toes pointed while extending your legs to meet the ground prior to the land. Then, the balls of both feet land evenly. Still keep your knees bent when your body lands on the ground. Perform a deep bend in the knees right when you touch the ground, and smack the ground with the hands.
Step5
Roll the weight of the body forwards moving into a roll-like position. If performed correctly, the momentum of the land follows naturally forward.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to get some sort of one-on-one coaching in landing a jump like a cat. The more certainty of the jumping process the less likely you get hurt.
