How to Form an Opinion

Learning to form an opinion is a matter of educating yourself about your options. Choosing between political figures or which of your kids is telling the truth can be done by learning as much as you can regarding the circumstances. By informing yourself, it's easier to make a confident decision.

Instructions

1. Consider the source of the information you use to make a decision. Some sources give you unbiased information, but others exist to sway your opinion. For instance, there's a difference between what a news organization and politician have to say.

2. Research to find as much factual information as you can. The more clearly you can view the issue, the easier it is to make a decision regarding your opinions.

3. Talk to people you respect on all sides of the issue. Ask them why they feel the way they do and how they came to that decision. If they made their decision in a way you don't agree with, you can disregard their perspective rather than let it sway you one way or the other.

4. Determine the time line you have to make a decision. If you have months before you have to make a selection or express your decision, you can wait and watch as you learn. If that time frame is short, you need to find as much information from as many sources as possible.
