How to Install Dual Video Cards
Computers require a graphic video accelerator to process the intense video images created while watching video, surfing the Internet or playing graphics-intensive video games. Some computers allow the system to run two video cards at once for even more video acceleration.

1
Turn off all power to the computer by removing the power cord from the rear of the unit. Press and hold the power button to dissipate any residual internal charges.
-
2
Open the computer case with a screwdriver or remove the thumbscrews found on the rear or sides of the case.
-
-
3
Locate the motherboard inside the computer case. On the motherboard there are two or more PCI Express slots. These slots hold the dual video cards side by side.
-
4
Find the SLI switch located between the two PCI Express slots and switch to "Dual" mode. On newer computers, this switch is software driven and is not located on the motherboard.
-
5
Insert each PCI Express video card into place in the slots. Firmly seat these two video cards into their respective slots.
-
6
Connect the cable or bridge between the dual video cards. This allows the two cards to communicate in tandem.
-
7
Close the computer case and return power to the system. Reboot the operating system and ensure the dual video card set up is successful.

Tips & Warnings
Inspect the new video cards for power requirements. Some models require a direct connection to the computer's power supply while others need a MOLEX power cord that runs from the video cards to the motherboard.
Buy slim-line or thin-profile video cards if the computer system is a small case size.
Wear a static strap for this procedure to prevent static discharge damage.
