How to Install Codecs of DivX

The Divx codec add-on is a technology that allows video enthusiasts to watch or create high-quality videos on a computer without worrying about large file sizes. A free Divx codec download is available to compress video files to one-tenth the original size, while maintaining the image quality and performance. Follow these steps to start enjoying video viewing on your computer.

  1. Step 1

    Go to the Divx website. Click on the navigation link called, "System Requirements." Read the Divx codec system requirements for your computer type. Make a note of the minimum requirements. Be certain that your computer meets the requirements so that the Divx codec runs properly.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the navigation link called "Codec." Click the "Free Download" button. The free Divx codec download page displays. The DivxInstaller.exe dialogue box displays. Click "Run." The Divx installer downloads. A dialogue box displays with the words "Do you want to run this software?" Click "Run."

  3. Step 3

    Select a language when the language dialogue box displays.

  4. Step 4

    Click "Next" and accept the agreement terms when the Divx setup wizard displays. Continue to click "Next." A dialogue box displays to give the option to add a Yahoo! toolbar. The toolbar gives you the ability to get quick access to the Divx websites and videos and protects your computer from spyware and pop-ups. Determine whether or not you want the toolbar option. Click "Next," and the installation completes.

  5. Step 5

    Enter your email address if you want to subscribe to the newsletter. Click "Next" and then click "Close." The Divx displays three icons on your desktop: the Divx Converter, Divx Player and Divx Movies. Enjoy watching or creating high-quality videos with the free Divx codec add-on.
