The BitTorrent protocol allows users to share files across the Internet at high speeds and reliable download rates. Thousands of peers swap movies, music and basically any other kind of digital media through its networks every day, making it one of the most popular Peer-to-Peer programs. To download files through torrents, you'll need a BitTorrent client like Azureus, which you can easily install by following these instructions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open the Azureus homepage. Aside from offering free downloads of its excellent BitTorrent client, this site provides a very useful user guide designed to help you maximize your download speeds and make the most of torrent technology.

  2. Step 2

Look for the large, brightly-colored "Download" button in the middle of the page. You'll be downloading the Vuze client, which is an upgraded version of the original Azureus client.

  3. Step 3

Click the button to start the installation process.

  4. Step 4

Confirm any security requests your operating system makes to allow Azureus to install itself properly. If you're using Vista, you'll likely need to confirm the download, as well as the installation procedure itself.

  5. Step 5

Follow the instructions the Azureus installer presents to complete the program's setup.

  6. Step 6

Head back to the Azureus homepage and click on the "List" link in the "Plugins" menu. Look over the options and decide which plugins you'd like to download. They're not required, but many of them expand the client's functionality in useful ways.
