Things You'll Need:
- Measuring tape
- Baseboard heating unit
- Electrical tester
- Pry bar
- Wire cutter/stripper
- Wire nuts
- Screwdriver
- Drill and drill bits
-
Step 1
Make sure you have access to the proper electrical voltage needed for the heater. Depending on the unit you buy, you may just be able to plug it into an outlet. Or you may have to do some wiring in order to install the baseboard heater.
-
Step 2
Measure the length of wall where you are going to install the baseboard-heating unit. Purchase the unit at the local home-improvement store. Also, purchase any other supplies for the project that you might need.
-
Step 3
Turn off the power to the electrical line you are using to install the baseboard-heating unit. Use a tester to make sure the power is off.
-
Step 4
Remove the baseboard with a pry bar if your new heater doesn't fit flush against the wall. Depending on the unit you purchase, you may be able to skip this step.
-
Step 5
Set the new heater in place. Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully to make sure you wire the heater properly. Strip enough insulation from the end of the house wiring and the heater's wiring to connect the wires. Secure them with wire nuts. Also, make sure the ground wire is secure.
-
Step 6
Attach the baseboard heater to the wall. Drill holes in the wall to match the holes in the heater. Secure the unit with screws.
-
Step 7
Turn the circuit back on. Check that the heater is working properly.
