Instructions

    • 1

Begin by folding the napkin on the diagonal. Start with one of the corners, and fold the napkin into a triangle shape by bringing it to the opposite corner. If you start at the lower left-hand corner, you need to fold it so that corner meets the upper right-hand corner.

    • 2

Fold the triangle into a diamond. Place the napkin in front of you where the longest side of the triangle is at the bottom. Take the two corners on each end of the long side of the triangle, and fold them up to meet the corner at the top of the triangle. This will form a diamond shape.

    • 3

Flip the napkin over. The creases will be face down when you do this.

    • 4

Fold the napkin again. Take the top of the napkin, and fold it over to meet the bottom. This will form a triangle shape again with one neat crease in the middle.

    • 5

Stand the napkin up by either picking up the folded napkin and standing it up in the place where you want it, or by pulling up on the center of the napkin.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always starch your cloth napkins. Restaurant napkins use heavily starched napkins. Use heavy spray starch on your cloth napkins, and run an iron over them before you fold a napkin into a pyramid.

  • Avoid using soft materials. Many man-made materials, such as polyester or rayon, will not stand when folded, no matter how much starch you use. Stick with cotton napkins.
