If you've got a large collection of vinyl records, the last thing you want to do is go through the expense of buying them all in CD version. Here's how you can save money and convert your vinyl albums to CD using Golden Records.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Record player
  • Stereo RCA to 3.5mm cable
  • Computer
  • Golden Records Software

Step1
Turn off the power to all equipment. Make sure the record player and the computer are off before you begin to connect the turntable to the computer. Your computer must have a sound card, CD burning drive and 600 MB available hard drive space.
Step2
Connect your analog audio source to your computer. Use the appropriate cable wire to connect the audio source to the computer's audio jack in the back of the computer. Golden Record's Help documentation gives detailed instructions on how to connect various audio sources, such as turntables, cassette decks and/or amplifiers.
Step3
Turn your computer on and download and install the software. You can get Golden Records software from their website. Golden Records is not a free program.
Step4
Begin recording your records. Golden Records has an intuitive, user-friendly interface. If you're new to Golden Records, you should use the wizard, which guides you through each step of the recording and conversion process. However, if you're slightly more advanced, you can bypass the wizard and begin recording your albums.

Tips & Warnings

  • Since converting vinyl to CD is a time-consuming process, it's best to start the process when you've got a little extra time to spare.
