Instructions

    • 1

Begin with a slip knot. With the tail of the yarn, wrap a portion around two fingers once, pull the loop of yarn from the side going to the ball and pull the tail of the yarn to tighten.

    • 2

      Chain three stitches.

    • 3

Insert the crochet needle into the loop of the slip knot with the last stitch still on the hook.

    • 4

Yarn over on the hook and pull the loop through the two stitches. You will now have a circle hanging from your crochet hook.

    • 5

Insert the crochet hook into the center of the circle, yarn over and pull the loop back through the center of the circle.

    • 6

Single crochet the two loops that are on the crochet hook. At the end of the round, this will look similar to a double crochet.

    • 7

Double crochet into the center of the circle eight more times. You will have a total of one single crochet and eight double crochet stitches at the end of the round, for a total of nine stitches around the circle.

    • 8

Close the circle by putting a slip stitch into the top of the first double crochet. This has to be done because the circle will have a slit gap where the new round began and ended.

    • 9

Double crochet twice into each double crochet in the round before.

    • 10

Repeat Step 9 until the piece is as large as you want it. Remember to close the round each time before starting a new round.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are having trouble finding the loop you will need to double crochet into twice, look through the piece at a light source. There will be loops that go along the edge of the last round. These are what you need to double crochet into.

You have to chain up at the end of each round, after the slip stich. This is between steps 8 and 9, otherwise your circle ain't gonna be round. The only time you do not chain up is when you are working in a spiral.
