As the holidays approach, you may want to evaluate and update the classic outfits in your closet. Consider what you might wear to this season's holiday celebrations, parties with friends or family gatherings to ensure you'll be stylish and comfortable. Read on for some tips on polishing your look.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Assemble a flattering outfit that you're also comfortable in. You won't be able to enjoy visiting with friends and family if you're preoccupied with how your short skirt rides up when you sit down, for example.
Step2
Dress in layers to cope easily with fluctuations in temperature. You may be chilly in transit, but the restaurant or host will probably have the fireplace blazing and the heat cranked up to warm the guests. Ensure the shirt or top you've got on under the suit jacket, shawl or coat is spotless and stylish on its own.
Step3
Wear clothing with a little extra room if you'll be feasting on Thanksgiving or Christmas (unless you're visiting family members who don't mind you undoing the top button after dinner).
Step4
Choose comfortable shoes if you'll be standing. Closed, pointy-toed pumps are fine if you'll be sitting in a restaurant, but less than ideal if you'll be mingling at a cocktail party for four hours.
Step5
Tone down the sparkle and shine. Glittery earrings, shimmering eye shadow and metallic accessories are appropriate for evening, as long as you don't overdo it. Add one or two elements to your outfit and leave the rest at home.

Tips & Warnings

  • When deciding what to wear to a particular event, study the gathering's invitation, occasion, location or time of day for clues about the appropriate style of clothing so you won't arrive under or overdressed.
  • Even if you don't anticipate any holiday invitations this season, keep a little black dress or suit in your closet. This way, you won't have to rush to the mall at the last minute or turn down invitations because you have nothing to wear.
