How to Dress for a School Dance or Party
Choosing what to wear for a school dance is a big deal. Some teenagers spend all week choosing and discussing with their friends what they're going to wear. But with a few simple tips you can easily choose the perfect outfit.

1
Figure out what kind of dance it is. The clothes for homecomings, balls and proms are usually dressier than for other dances.
-
2
Follow the dress code of the school, if there is one. The school may not let you wear short shorts, backless dresses, miniskirts or even tops with low-cut necklines. Some schools want boys to wear collared shirts and girls to wear skirts that hit the knees. Being turned away at the door for your clothes is an embarrassment that's preventable.

3
Consider jeans. Most teenagers will wear jeans to a casual school dance. However, double check the dress code and if you want to stand out, don't wear jeans.
-
4
Keep hair and make-up simple. This isn't the time to try a new look; it probably won't work and it'll just look ridiculous.

5
Think about the shoes you'll be wearing. Remember, you're going to be on your feet, dancing most of the night. Choose shoes that are comfortable. Check with the dress code since some schools won't let you wear open-toed shoes due to the liability if someone was to step on your feet.

6
Check with your friends to see what they'll be wearing. You want to avoid wearing the same colors or same clothes as your friends.

Tips & Warnings
Choose something that looks good on you and fits your body type. Avoid the trendy fashions if it doesn't look good on you.
Wear something you feel good in. If what you're wearing is out of your comfort zone you won't project confidence.
