How to Carve a Watermelon T-Rex Dinosaur

Children love dinosaurs. They are popular at birthday parties, Halloween celebrations and other holidays. If you have a holiday coming up and would like to make a great impression read on to learn how to make a watermelon T-Rex dinosaur.

Things You'll Need

  • Watermelon
  • Honeydew melon
  • Toothpicks
  • Melon baller
  • Knife
  • Clean two the melons thoroughly. Flatten the bottom of the large watermelon by cutting a quarter inch off of it lengthwise. This will prevent it from rolling around on the serving platter.

  • Draw an open Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur mouth with a pen. The mouth should extend three-quarters of the way across the watermelon lengthwise. The extra quarter inch will prevent the watermelon from splitting when the mouth is stuffed with melon squares.

  • Carve out the mouth that was drawn. Scoop the melon out of the top of the T-Rex dinosaur head to alleviate the weight. Leave the melon in the bottom of the head for stability.

  • Prop the T-Rex's mouth open with a large honeydew square. Use the leftover rind from cutting out the mouth to make eyebrows and nostrils. Secure them to the dinosaur's head using toothpicks.

  • Scoop out eyeballs using the melon baller. Cut all the way through the rind directly under the eyebrows.

  • Cut triangular pieces from the melon rind for the teeth. Secure them to the inside edge of the mouth using toothpicks.

  • Stuff the dinosaur mouth with cut pieces of melon. Use the honeydew and the watermelon and stuff the mouth full making sure to hide the large square that is supporting it open.
