It's important to make sure your rabbit is healthy. Contrary to popular belief, rabbits don't get colds. Sneezing may be a sign that something else is potentially wrong. This may be very harmful to your rabbit, so take these steps to care for your rabbit when he is experiencing cold-like symptoms.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take note of the exact symptoms your rabbit is experiencing. Tell your vet what you notice, what food your rabbit is eating and what kind of bedding is in the cage. This will be helpful to your vet in determining what is wrong. Sometimes the problem can be as simple as changing the bedding.

  2. Step 2

Handle your rabbit as little as possible. He may be nervous, which adds stress to his cold. Put him in a cool, quiet place with no distractions while he is ill. Keep your rabbit away from other rabbits as he might be contagious. Disinfect any areas that your rabbit has been in contact with.

  3. Step 3

Watch your rabbit carefully to make sure the symptoms don't get worse. Don't make any fast movements or loud noises when observing him. Just being around your rabbit may make him feel safe and secure.

  4. Step 4

Give your rabbit the correct dose of medication he is prescribed. Make sure you finish the medicine until it is gone. Just because your rabbit seems to be better doesn't mean you should stop his treatment.

Tips & Warnings
  • To get the best possible care, choose a vet who is familiar with rabbits.
  • Don't give your rabbit amoxycillin. This will kill him.
  • Take your rabbit to the vet immediately if symptoms get worse.
