Mario Mario (yes, that's the full name) has been one of the most popular video game characters for two decades. Whether it's for Halloween or a video game convention, dressing like the mustachioed plumber can be quite easy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with a plain, long-sleeved red shirt. While any type of shirt can do, a workman's style shirt is best.

  2. Step 2

Include a set of blue overalls. Since men's overalls are made of denim, these should be very easy to find.

  3. Step 3

Add a pair of brown workman boots.

  4. Step 4

Select white gloves. Again, workman gloves will add to the realism, but you may need to paint them white. Mickey Mouse-style gloves from a costume shop can work too.

  5. Step 5

Take a red plumber's or rider's cap. Using felt or another sturdy material, make a white circle with a red "M" in the middle. Glue or sew the "M" circle to the inner snap portion of the cap.

  6. Step 6

Put on a thick, black, bushy mustache. If you don't want to wait the several weeks to grow it yourself, look for a fake one at a costume or gag store.

Tips & Warnings
  • A blue shirt with red overalls will also work, as Mario has been depicted in both styles. Red overalls, however, may be harder to find. You may need to get them in any light color and dye them.
  • You can also add props such as a large mushroom, flower or star with a face. There can be several things you can make these items from, such as modeling clay or construction paper.
  • You can also make a simple costume of Mario's brother Luigi. Just replace items that are red with green instead (and the "M" on the cap with an "L").
