How to Draw an Impossible Cube
The impossible cube is so named because it appears that the tubes or pipes that create the cube intersect one other, altering the perspective. Numbering your lines as you go will make it easier for you to learn to draw the impossible cube.
Instructions
-
Part One
-
1
Use your permanent marker to draw a vertical line 2 or 3 inches long. This is Line 1.
-
2
Make Line 2 angle down and to the right from top of Line 1 at a 45-degree angle. Make it stop at Line 1's midway point.
-
-
3
Draw Line 3 straight down from the bottom of Line 2. Line 3 should be the same length as Line 1.
-
4
Make Line 4 begin at the bottom of Line 3, angeling 45 degrees left and stopping midway between Line 1 and 3.
-
5
For Line 5, drag your marker from the top of Line 4 straight across to the right until it meets Line 2. Line 6 begins at the bottom of Line 1 and moves to the right until it meets Line 3.
Part Two
-
6
Make Line 7 the same size as Line 3, just to the right. The gap between these two lines should be equal to the gap between Lines 5 and 6. This gap is the size of the pipe that will construct your impossible cube.
-
7
Draw Line 8 at the bottom of Line 7. It is a straight line that extends to the right as long as Line 7 is tall. Line 9 begins at the end of Line 8 and extends to the left at a 45 degree angle, stopping so it's even with Line 5. Line 10 is a straight line from the end of Line 9 and stops when it meets Line 7.
-
8
Create Line 11 by making a straight line that goes to the right, starting in the middle of Line 3. Line 11 begins directly across from Line 5 and is as long as Line 10.
-
9
Drag your marker from the end of Line 11 straight up to make Line 12. This line should be as long as Line 1.
Part Three
-
10
Make Line 13 parallel to the right of Line 12 and the same length. Make sure the gap you leave is consistent with the other gaps you've made.
-
11
Begin Line 14 at the bottom of Line 13 and extend it at a 45-degree angle down and to the right of Line 9. Line 15 begins at the top of Line 7 and continues right until it meets Line 12.
-
12
Start Line 16 from the center of Line 13. It should be parallel to Line 15 and of equal length. Line 17 starts at the end of Line 16 and ends when it connects with line 14.
-
13
Draw Line 18 parallel to Line 2. It should be just as long and to the right. Line 19 begins at the bottom of Line 18 and proceeds to the right, ending at Line 12. Line 20 is a continuation of Line 19 as long as line 16 and parallel above it.
-
14
Make a 45-degree angle to the left to connect the right end of Line 20 with the top of Line 13. Flip your paper a quarter of a turn to the right.
-
15
Close the gap between Lines 18 and 13 by drawing a straight line down from Line 18. Add a continuous border all the way around the outside of the cube.
