Whether you are just learning the basics of geometry or you are designing and implementing equilateral triangles into art, they can be a bit tricky to draw. Each angle must be exactly 60 degrees for it to be a true equilateral triangle. Here's how to draw it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Compass
  • Protractor

Step1
Mark a point near the center of your page. It does not have to be exact, but as close to the center as possible will give you an easier time down the line.
Step2
Put your compass on the dot you just drew and draw a circle. The larger the circle, the larger the triangle, so adjust for your needs.
Step3
Select a point anywhere on the edge of that circle. Make a dot.
Step4
Place the compass on the second dot and draw a circle that is the exact same size. The second circle will pass through the first circle.
Step5
Notate where the circles intersect at both the bottom and the top. Place a dot there.
Step6
Utilize your ruler by aligning each dot and drawing a line in between to connect them. At this point, you will see the equilateral triangle appear.
Step7
Check the triangle by placing your protractor over each angle of the triangle. It will read 60 degrees. If you do not have a protractor, eye-ball it. If each side looks of equal length, then the angles will be equal. You have learned to draw an equilateral triangle.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have a compass, draw three sides that are of equal length until they connect in a triangle form. This will also give you an equilateral triangle.
