How to Draw a Star

Drawing a star is more a matter of practice than any particular talent for art or drawing. Understanding which lines are straight and which are angled is the key to creating the perfect star every time you try. Use a straight-edge if you need to get clean lines.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Writing utensil
  • Straight-edge
  1. Step 1

Begin your star by drawing an upside down "V" shape. This will be the top of your star.

  2. Step 2

Draw one straight line outward from each end of your upside down "V." The lines should be the same length as the legs of the "V" you just drew.

  3. Step 3

Rotate your paper to the side and add another line at an angle, as if you were turning each of these straight lines into an upside-down "V."

  4. Step 4

Do the same thing on the other side. The result should be your original upside down "V" with two additional sideways "V's" attached to each leg of the original. You now have three of the five points on your star.

  5. Step 5

Imagine that straight lines close each of the three "V" shapes you've made. Make a mark at the middle of that space so that if you continued to connect the lines, the result would be a hexagon. Use this hexagon to connect the two remaining points on your star.

Tips & Warnings
  • Draw a six-pointed star by drawing a triangle. Then, turn your paper upside down and draw another triangle of identical size over it, facing in the opposite direction.
