Drawing any map takes some preparation. Drawing a map of an imaginary place lets you decide exactly where you want things. The only limitations you have when you draw the map of your imaginary place are the boundaries of your mind.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Imagine a clear picture of the imaginary place in your mind. Make note of where everything is located.

  2. Step 2

Write out all of the necessities of your map. This should include the scale of your map, the buildings and any landmarks you need to include in your map.

  3. Step 3

Begin drawing the main buildings. These buildings will serve as focal points for the rest of your map.

  4. Step 4

Draw the main roads that connect your main buildings. Think of your local roads to give you ideas of how to connect the buildings.

  5. Step 5

Add any smaller buildings or accent buildings such as houses, small stores or other minor structures.

  6. Step 6

Connect all of the smaller buildings to each other, the main buildings and other roads.

  7. Step 7

Place landscaping, street signs and street lights where necessary on your map. Make sure that all of the intersections have something that directs the traffic.

Tips & Warnings
  • Draw your map in pencil so you can correct any errors. You can always draw over the pencil with a pen or marker once your map is correct.
  • You can use colored pencils or markers to help you to differentiate the types of roads or structures on your map.
  • Don't be afraid to start drawing a new map if you aren't satisfied with the current map. Just keep the map that has mistakes so you can learn from the mistakes when you draw a new map.
