How to Draw a Paper Doll

A paper doll is fun to make and to play with. People of all ages love to draw paper dolls. You can make them to resemble yourself or someone else, and they can be drawn as boys or girls and in all shapes and sizes. Follow these steps to learn how to draw a paper doll.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Draw a body on cardstock using a stencil or by drawing freehand. Use a pencil so the lines can be erased when you finish cutting out your paper doll.
Step2
Glue the cardstock paper to a piece of cardboard for stability purposes. This will allow your doll to stand upright.
Step3
Trim out your paper doll with a pair of sharp scissors. Don't cut areas too thinly because they will tear when you are playing them.
Step4
Cut strips of cardboard 3 inches wide and 1 inch tall. Fold the strips in half. Cut half-inch slits in the bottom of the paper doll and insert the strips into the slits of the paper doll.
Step5
Create clothes for the paper doll. Place a piece of paper on top of the doll and draw the clothes. Cut the clothes out making sure to leave tabs extending out to attach them to the paper doll.
Step6
Color the clothes and paper doll. Sketch facial features on the paper doll and use colored pencils or markers for more definition.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can create different hair styles by drawing them on paper and cutting them out. Leave tabs to attach the hair to the paper doll.
  • Wrapping paper makes great clothes for your paper doll.
  • Help young children cut out the paper doll. The scissors will slip easily when cutting cardboard.
