How to Draw a Farmer

When learning how to draw, it's best to start with some of the basics. A good beginning project to draw is a farmer. It uses a lot of the basic shapes but encourages attention to detail to convey the message that he is a farmer. Follow these steps to learn how to draw a farmer.

  • Sketch the farmer's head. To do this, make a semi-circle in the shape of a "U." Draw in the face as desired to include eyes, ears, nose, mouth and a mustache. Add expression to the face if you desire.

  • Put a hat on the farmer's head. Make an upside down "U" on top of the head and add a brim by making two half circles.

  • Create the body of the farmer by drawing arms, legs and a torso. Dress your farmer in overalls to identify what he is. Add little details such as knee patches and a pocket on the bib.

  • Draw the tools a farmer would likely hold. These include a pitchfork, shovel, rake or even vegetables. Little details like a straw in his mouth will help to communicate that he is a farmer.

  • Color in your drawing. Specific colors such as brown, red and denim help to convey the farmer theme. Add some patchwork or gingham if you desire.
