Drawing a dog is not a very hard concept. However, drawing a dog's head with a lot of detail can be a little challenging. There are many different breeds of dogs and all have heads shaped differently. Below are some steps on how to draw a dog head.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drawing paper
  • A pencil with an eraser
  1. Step 1

Draw a sideways rectangle in front of a slightly slanted triangle. The rectangle will eventually be the dog's muzzle, and the triangle is the side of his neck, head and ear.

  2. Step 2

Trace the outline of the dog's muzzle in the rectangle. Trace the outline of the ear at the point of the triangle.

  3. Step 3

Add some eyes, the nose and a mouth. Include the second ear slightly in front of the point of the triangle so that it resembles an ear in the background.

  4. Step 4

Erase the outline of the rectangle and triangle (these just get you started with the correct shape of the dog's head). Spike the hair, and then add detail such as extra hair or a dog's collar. Draw whiskers and other features that you want to include on the dog's head.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice drawing different dogs. Look at dog pictures and practice drawing dogs with large heads and small heads. Practice drawing dogs with long muzzles and short muzzles. The more you practice, the better you become at drawing a typical dog head.
  • Trace the dogs head and then add your own details. This is a good way to practice getting the right form of the head.
