How to Dye Hair Brown After It's Been Dyed Black
Lightening your hair from black to brown is a tricky procedure, but you can accomplish it at home. Over-processing your hair by coloring can really damage your hair, so it's wise to choose the least amount of products for the best result. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Color Fix
- Color Zap
- Hot-oil treatment
- Prell shampoo
- Head & Shoulders shampoo
- Moisturizing shampoo
- Moisturizing conditioner
- Brown hair dye
- Conditioner for color-treated hair
Instructions

1
Remove the existing black dye from your hair before adding another color. Use a product like Color Fix from Jheri Redding or Color Zap from L'Oreal to help in this process. Both of these products strip the permanent dye from the hair, but remember that black is the darkest color available so it's the hardest color to remove.

2
Use hot-oil treatments and Prell or Head and Shoulders shampoo for one week if the color-removing products did not fully remove the dye from your hair. Then allow a minimum of another week before you dye your hair brown so your hair can rest. Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner during this time to help your hair recover.

3
Pick out the shade of brown hair dye you want to use and apply it to your hair. Follow the instructions that come with the dye exactly. Use conditioner for color-treated hair on a regular basis.

My natural hair color is dark brown. I asked my mom to dye it back to my natural color. Now, my crown is brown and the rest of my hair is still black. Should I ask my mom to dye it again, or should I have it done professionally? -

My Natural hair color is Medium brown. I've been dying it Permanent Natural Black with Clairol for about 2 years. I have not dyed my hair black again for atleat 2 moths, so its growing out a bit but 90% of my hair is still black. Would i use this same method to get mine back to its natural medium-brown color, even though the black dye has set in for probably 2 months? -
