How to Dye Grout for Mosaic Tiles

- Mosaic tile grout
- Colorant
- Water
- Small plastic bucket or mixing bowl

Choose the color of the grout you want to use for your mosaic tile project by looking at colorant charts at your local craft, hardware or big-box store or online at websites such as Tile Shack Mosaic Supplies.

Pour your grout into a small plastic bucket or disposable plastic mixing bowl.

Add the grout colorant of your choice to white grout to obtain the perfect shade of color for your project. Stir in the grout colorants to gray or black grout to obtain different shades and effects.

Mix powdered colorant with the grout before adding water. Blend liquid colorant into the water before adding the grout. Follow the package directions regarding amounts of colorant and grout.

Stir the mixture thoroughly to blend the dye into the grout.

Tips & Warnings
Buy grout in more than 30 colors. Customize the colors further with grout colorants.
Be aware that acrylic paint used to color grout for mosaic tiles will change the chemical composition of the grout and make it weak.
Vegetable-based dyes will not permanently dye grout.
Never pour left over grout down sink drains or into the toilet bowl.
Always wear safety goggles when working with mosaic tiles and grout.
If you have a sensitivity to dust, wear a mask when working with grout and grout dyes.
