Step 1
Get a basketball with a good grip. One of the most embarrassing things which can happen to you during a dunk attempt is dropping the ball just as you are going up for the dunk. A new ball with a good grip can make this less likely.
-
Step 2
Begin your dunk attempt at half court. For an Egyptian dunk, you'll need to build up a lot of speed, so you'll need room to run.
-
Step 3
Run full speed up to about the free-throw line. In a game, you will have to dribble, but if you're just showing off for friends do not worry about traveling. Concentrate on having control of the ball and on running.
-
Step 4
Slow down. After you reach the free-throw line, slow down and take two steps. If you're right-handed, step with your right foot first and left foot second, and if you are left-handed, do the opposite. For a right-handed player, jumping off of the left foot will give the player a little extra reach for the dunk.
-
Step 5
Turn around. After taking the second step, turn 180 degrees and once your back is to the goal, begin to jump backward.
-
Step 6
Finish the Egyptian dunk. Complete the dunk by slamming the ball into the basket with both hands. Many players like to hang on the goal for a few seconds for extra emphasis.
